Billing and refunds

Effective 1 September 2026 · Operated by Phi Aurum Group (Pty) Ltd (registration 2026/576088/07), South Africa

Exuvia is free while it is in beta. We take no payment, hold no card details, and there is nothing to cancel or refund.

The rest of this page describes what will happen when paid plans launch, so that you can read it before you ever have to.

1. Notice before anything is charged

You will never be charged for Exuvia without actively choosing a paid plan. If we introduce one, we will email you at least 30 days beforehand. Not choosing a plan is a valid answer, and it will not delete your account.

2. Who takes the payment

Payments will be handled by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. That means they take the payment, handle tax, and appear on your statement. Their terms and privacy policy will apply to the payment itself, alongside ours. Phi Aurum Group (Pty) Ltd does not receive or store your card number.

3. What it costs, and what leaving costs

Exuvia has one paid plan. The free tier holds up to 3 animals and is not a trial — it does not expire. Photographs and spreadsheet import are on the paid plan; every husbandry warning is on both. Pricing sets out what each tier includes.

  • $5 a month, or $45 a year. Prices are in US dollars because payment is handled internationally; your bank converts at its own rate, and that conversion is between you and them.
  • You can cancel at any time, from your own account, without emailing anyone.
  • Cancelling stops the next payment. Access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for.
  • We will not charge for a partial period after cancellation, and we will not make you contact support to stop billing.

4. Refunds

  • First 14 days. If you pay and change your mind within 14 days, email us and we will refund it in full. No reason needed.
  • After 14 days. Monthly payments already taken are not normally refunded, because you had access for that period. Cancel and you will not be charged again.
  • If we broke it. If Exuvia was unusable for a meaningful part of a paid period because of a fault on our side, tell us and we will refund or credit that period. You should not have to argue for this.
  • If we change the price. A price increase gets 30 days’ notice. If you cancel because of it, any payment taken at the new price is refunded in full.
  • If we shut Exuvia down. We refund the unused portion of any paid period and keep export working for at least 60 days.

These are our own commitments. They do not limit your statutory rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, or the distance-selling and consumer rights you may have in the EU or UK.

5. What lapsing does, and what it does not do

If a paid plan lapses or you cancel, and your collection is larger than the free tier holds, there is a 30-day grace period in which nothing changes at all. That exists so that a card expiring by accident is never an animal welfare problem.

After the grace period the account locks. Being clear about what that means:

  • Nothing is deleted. Every record stays, including animals that died.
  • Export keeps working, always and for free. A lock is not us holding your records hostage.
  • You can still read your whole collection and its history.
  • Exuvia stops recording and stops advising, together. No feeding list, no water reminders, no premoult warnings, no daily email. We will not do one without the other, and the reason matters: an account that could not record a moult but went on prompting you to feed would eventually tell you to offer live prey to an animal whose fangs had gone soft since the lock. A lapsed payment must never be the reason a spider gets fed while its fangs are still soft — so a lapsed account says nothing rather than something stale, and the husbandry judgement returns to you, where it was before you had Exuvia.
  • Paying again switches everything back on immediately, exactly as you left it.
  • Records are erased only when you ask us to erase them, through account deletion.

6. How to ask

Email phiaurum.za@gmail.com with the email address on the account. We aim to reply within three business days. If something has gone wrong with a payment, please contact us before raising a chargeback — it is faster, and a chargeback may suspend the account automatically.

7. Changes to this page

Any material change is emailed to account holders in advance, and the effective date at the top of this page will change. A price increase gets 30 days’ notice, as set out above.
